MEXICO CITY (AP) -Officials of Mexican club Puebla said Tuesday that American forward Eddie Johnson has failed a physical exam and will not be joining the first-division club.
"He (Johnson) spent Friday with the team but team officials decided not to keep him because he didn't pass the physical test," Puebla spokesman Alfonso Sanchez Jimenez said.
Johnson, 27, has played for FC Dallas and the Kansas City Wizards in Major League Soccer. He has been without a team since leaving Fulham of the English Premier League in the summer. While in Britain, he also had loan spells with Cardiff City and Preston North End.
Johnson had hoped to join fellow American DaMarcus Beasley at Puebla.
Johnson has played internationally for the United States, but was not included in the country's 2010 World Cup team in South Africa.
